This is very attractive except for one big problem. Joseph would have to become the father of John (his son, not his brother!) at age 7. Everything about the original record looks like it was done carefully; seems accurate.

I don't have a good feeling about this, but I not having any luck with Joseph Valentini. I am only going to find him in 1860.  Two children are born in MD, 1863 and 1866, and Catherine (Kate) is widowed before 1870.  His age is right here but place of birth is not.
